Description
Learn how to make delicious ground beef lettuce wraps. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (substitute with ground turkey or chicken if preferred)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for a gluten-free option)
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- 1 cup water chestnuts, chopped
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 head of butter lettuce, leaves separated and washed
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
- Stir in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to combine.
- Add the chopped water chestnuts to the mixture and cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sliced green onions.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. I learned early on not to overdo it—start small and adjust as needed.
- Spoon the beef mixture into the lettuce leaves, using them as cups. Serve immediately and enjoy the crunch and flavor explosion!
