Description

Learn how to make delicious ground beef lo mein. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef (substitute with ground turkey or chicken if preferred)
  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles (or spaghetti as a substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent, about 2-3 minutes. This reminds me of the times in college when quick, hearty meals like this were essential for Wednesday dinners with friends.
  4. Add the bell peppers and broccoli to the skillet. Sauté for about 4 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the cooked noodles. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and black pepper. Toss everything together until the noodles are well coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve immediately. Eli loves helping with this part—sprinkling the green onions is his favorite job!
