Description
Learn how to make delicious Hot Crab Spinach Dip. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened (substitute with Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a little kick)
- 10 ounces frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry (fresh spinach works too, about 4 cups cooked and chopped)
- 8 ounces lump crab meat, picked over for shells
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Butter or olive oil, for greasing the baking dish
Growing up, I always admired how my parents could take something as simple as frozen spinach and turn it into a dish that felt indulgent. That’s the spirit here—nothing fancy, just smart use of ingredients to get the best results.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish with butter or olive oil to prevent sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Use a hand mixer or sturdy spoon to blend until smooth and creamy.
- Add the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix until everything is evenly incorporated.
- Fold in the thawed and well-drained spinach, making sure to squeeze out as much water as possible to avoid a watery dip.
- Gently fold in the crab meat and lemon juice, trying not to break up the lumps of crab too much. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake uncovered for about 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges. You’ll know it’s ready when it’s hot and melted through.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. This step helps the dip thicken slightly and makes it easier to scoop.
One of my early kitchen lessons came from that chili incident—learning to taste and adjust as you go is key. Don’t be shy about sampling the mixture before baking and tweaking the seasoning. It’s your moment to get this dip perfectly in tune with your taste buds.
