Description
Learn how to make delicious Irresistible Tiramisu Truffles. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese, softened (substitute with cream cheese for a budget-friendly twist)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup ladyfinger cookies, crushed (or substitute with graham crackers)
- 1/4 cup strong brewed espresso or coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional, can replace with extra espresso)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate, melted (for dipping, optional)
When I first started developing this recipe, I was inspired by the simple pantry staples I always had on hand. Mascarpone might seem fancy, but it’s really just creamy cheese, and swapping it with cream cheese keeps things within reach. The espresso adds that unmistakable tiramisu punch, and if you’re like me, having a little coffee liqueur on hand is a nice nod to the classic, but definitely not a deal-breaker.
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy using an electric mixer on medium speed. This usually takes about 2 minutes. I always make sure my mascarpone is softened to room temperature; it makes mixing so much easier and prevents lumps.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. This can take 3-5 minutes with a hand mixer. Stiff peaks are key here—they give the truffles their light, airy texture.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone, using a spatula and folding motion to keep as much air in the mixture as possible. This step reminds me of those times I tried to fix an oversalted dish—careful folding and gentle adjustments make all the difference.
- In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso and coffee liqueur (if using). Quickly dip the crushed ladyfingers into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long or they’ll become mushy. I learned this the hard way during one of my early kitchen experiments!
- Fold the dipped ladyfinger crumbs into the mascarpone mixture until evenly combined. The texture should be thick enough to shape but still moist.
- Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, form the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Optional: For an extra layer of decadence, dip each truffle into melted dark chocolate and return to the baking sheet. This was a trick I picked up from one of my evening culinary classes—simple but impressive.
- Chill the truffles in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to firm up. Before serving, dust generously with unsweetened cocoa powder.
One thing I’ve learned from hosting those budget-friendly dinners is that timing can make or break the experience. These truffles come together quickly but benefit from a good chill time. It gives you a chance to tidy up the kitchen or even prepare a simple coffee for serving.
