Description
Learn how to make delicious loaded philly cheesesteak fries. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak or sirloin (you can also use thinly sliced chicken breast for a lighter option)
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced (substitute with red or orange for sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 3 cups frozen or homemade French fries (about 12 ounces; use sweet potato fries for a twist)
- 2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese (provolone gives a more authentic Philly flavor)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- Optional: sliced jalapeños or banana peppers for a bit of heat
- Fresh parsley or chives, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the fries evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Bake according to package instructions or until golden and crispy, about 20-25 minutes. If you’re making homemade fries, toss cut potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper before baking.
- While the fries are baking, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. This step brings out a natural sweetness that balances the savory beef perfectly.
- Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet with the vegetables. Season with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the steak is browned and cooked through—about 4-5 minutes. Keep the heat high enough to get a bit of a sear, which adds great flavor, but don’t overcook or the meat will be tough.
- Once the fries are crispy and out of the oven, transfer them to an oven-safe serving dish or keep them on the baking sheet if it’s sturdy enough.
- Evenly distribute the cooked steak, peppers, and onions over the fries. Sprinkle the shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese generously on top.
- Return the loaded fries to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For an extra touch, switch the oven to broil for the last 1-2 minutes to get a golden, slightly crispy cheese crust, but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley or chives. If you like a little heat, add sliced jalapeños or banana peppers on top.
- Serve immediately. Trust me, these fries disappear fast at my dinner table.
