Description

Learn how to make delicious pasta recipe lunch. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 12 ounces of your favorite pasta (penne, fusilli, or spaghetti work great)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried basil)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for a creamy twist)

Feel free to substitute ingredients based on what you have. No fresh basil? Dried works just fine. Out of heavy cream? Skip it or try a splash of milk for a lighter version.

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the skillet, stirring to combine. Sprinkle in the sugar, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. If using, stir in the heavy cream and allow the sauce to simmer for an additional 2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing it gently to coat with the sauce.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan and fresh basil, reserving a bit of basil for garnish.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with the remaining basil and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Enjoy the warmth and comfort reminiscent of family gatherings.
