Description
Learn how to make delicious Velvety Red Velvet Oreo Cheesecake Recipe. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 24 Oreo cookies, crushed (about 2 cups)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- Optional: additional Oreos for garnish
Feel free to substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream if that’s what you have on hand. It’s all about working with what’s in your pantry, a skill I honed during those early days of salvaging an over-salted chili by experimenting with beans and tomatoes.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and prepare a 9-inch springform pan by greasing the sides.
- In a bowl, mix crushed Oreo cookies with melted butter until well combined. Press this mixture into the bottom of the springform pan to form the crust.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add sugar and continue to beat until fully incorporated. Mix in the sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing just until combined after each addition. Avoid overmixing to prevent cracking.
- Divide the batter in half. To one half, add cocoa powder and red food coloring. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the red velvet batter over the Oreo crust. Then, gently spread the plain cheesecake mixture on top. Use a spatula to smooth the surface.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly. Turn off the oven and leave the cheesecake inside to cool for an hour.
- Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best results.
- Before serving, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form and use it to garnish the cheesecake along with extra Oreo cookies, if desired.
Remember, patience is key! Letting the cheesecake cool in the oven helps prevent cracks. It’s a tip born out of many evenings spent perfecting one-pot meals for friends, where timing was everything.
